My 60g hex has been going for a few months now and everything has stayed stable through and through (boy does patience pay off), and now I am getting to the point where I want to get another fish for the tank. So far I have --

PJ Cardinal, Clownfish (who is going to another tank in a few weeks), yellow headed jawfish, tiger goby.

Interestingly, the clown stays the 'highest up' and likes to hide up near my overflow equipment (there is no anenome in the tank, so I guess this is where he feels safest. I am only holding him temporarily, which turned into longer term than expected...), and the PJ cardinal can often be seen in the middle of the water column, but I have quite a bit of room (1.5 feet or more) above where my live rock ends and I am looking for a fish that might make that its home.

Any suggestions?

Good question Robert.

I don't really have an answer, but I do have a couple thoughts.

The first thought is that most reef fish will certainly prefer the comfort of the reef being close by and not venture into the open water.

My second thought would be to visit a coupel stores that have a good selection of marines and observe how they behave. You may notice one species that finds the top of the tank preferable doing this.

:dunno:

Which kind of chromis? Also, any recommendations on ones that don't get all that large (keep in mind this is 60g *hex* so not tons of swimming room), that are very peaceful, and info on whether or not they require schools?

Thanks guys! This has piqued my interest

I would recommend the green chromis.
they do like to swim in the upper regions of the tank. they can
get somewhat large(in relation to your hex), but if you start out
with small ones, it will take some time before their size becomes a problem..
they are very peaceful, and they do school, so an ideal number to get is
three or more.
