Can I put forward the idea of an age restriction on being a member? Or even just as there little thing under their name like instead of "fish lover" or whatever instead of that put "junior member".

Thanks

hi, what would be gained from your suggestion? i think it's good that younger people such as myself are on this forum, as it is very informative, and helps us become more knowledgeable and therefore keeping our fish happier. also, it appears to me that people are trying to encourage more younger people into the hobby, and this forum is a great place to start.

cheers :good:

I don't think it should be against younger members, there are plenty who aren't utter numpties... So perhaps that's a category to create...?

Hi,

I see your point, so probably the junior member bit would work better, i've seen it done on lots of other forums and not necessarily you but other younger kids just seem more emotional and annoying to be honest.

hi, i still don't think that being labelled as a junior member would make a difference. it won't stop younger people posting, and some people may not want others to know their age. i think that it would be more appropriate that if someone is regularly posting 'idiotic stuff everywhere' they should be sent a pm encouraging that they think before they post. i see where you're coming from, but i don't think that the junior member label will have any effect.

cheers :good:

Just think it will help people know how to react when said young person posts an annoying or innapropriately

It could make people be gentler with their replies. And it wouldnt be compulsory as you dont have to disclose your age.

hmm, good point, but for example truck what said about misscosmo, and he knew her age, so i think that some people don't have much patience with younger kids, and they will not care whether it is a kid who has posted, or an adult.

EDIT: if it wasn't compulsory, than i think it's a good idea. i thought you meant it would be compulsory.

cheers :good:

i wrote a massive reply and facebook chat totally screwed it up

I think its easy to tell when there are younger members posting on the forum and i don't think that pointing them out by giving them a title will make much difference. If you find the things they post annoying and idiotic, then just don't read their posts lol. Its not just the younger members that post those kinds of things either

also, another point. some people may find a question idiotic, but others may find it sensible. and i don't think that it is that obvious to tell whether someone is a kid, because in the past i've been surprised to find that a member is a kid, because they seem so mature in their posts.

cheers :good:

I believe that kids should be treated with exactly the same tolerance as adults on the forum, they have signed up and shouldn't expect to be molly cuddled. It is not the forums job to keep an eye on them, It is the job of the parents.

At the end of the day yeah, the thought was there and from it is both positive and negative but the point is whether or not your new to fish keeping or an expert, there is always some information you may have forgotten or just not known and yes, you may have to ask a 'silly' question in some peoples eyes but your here for that reason aswell as others. To share our hobby and learn and expand your knowledge of our beloveds in a friendly environment.

Ive been reading these forums for months now and I honestly cant point out where someone has either said anything about a members age nor refused to help anyone for a stupid question. Everyone here is constantly helping each other without any problems, the only time i have seen a subject cause dispute is when there are a conflict of opinions and even then people end up either apologising or simply seeing eye to eye and everyone ends in a giggle regardless!

Sorry to blab on and if anyone finds anything i have said offensive but i had to stick my big nose in as i found this to be an interesting subject

:fun: :fun: :fun:
Peace
Paul

How can you be annoyed by "juniors" replies i find that some of the smartest ones are also "juniors" as you call them, now i will admit there are some posts by younger members that post one word responses which i agree can be annoying but having younger people labeled as juniors could single them out to online predators this could have dangerous affects and if this did happen "not saying its being considered" i would leave

How exactly does one propose to have this enforced? People can lie about their age pretty easily (check my profile, unless you really think that I joined the forum before I was born). If they don't want to be branded with "junior", then they just fill in the birth date to make them >18.

It is completely unenforceable, and I don't see how it really changes anything anyway.
