Hey everyone!

At my office I have a 55 gal freshwater tank where I keep 2 shovelnose catfish that are growing rapidly. They managed to demonstrate they rapid growth with my dedicated feeding schedule. It is interesting.

So, to get to the point. :) I would like a salt water tank at home. I would like to keep a Lionfish, Por. Puffer, and a couple yellow tangs. What size would you suggest? At my LFS I have heard I can keep a min 55+ for these. I have been told an 80 would be great, but one guy (before I spoke to my friend who works there) told me that I need a 200 gal for these. That seemed a little steep. But, I am not sure. That is why I am asking. Let me know please! I am curious!

Thanks in Advance!

I'd have thought the 200 was nearer the mark - and a 4' (100G) at least. But it all depends on the size of the fish you get.

Why not convert your 55g experiment for a year or two with "easier" fish, then upgrade when you have more experience.

Hope this helps

Ian

Ya 200g
If you are interested in sw FO I would get the largest tank you can fit/afford.

55gal makes no sense to me if you can get a 75

anyhow not to diverge...
1) 3-5 inches per gallon (3 if you have MASSIVE filteration)... not to mention aggression patterns and stuff... so 8-10 inch lionfish = the whole tank!

as far as comparing to a fish store...
well, you can survive at grand central station... but do you want to live there?

I can say more if you like... but im sure you have heard it all before :)

You could consider getting a dwarf lionfish. They don't grow nearly as big, and they're a lot easier to have in a smaller tank.

I think that some lionfish only get to be about four inches or so.
