hi folks, well the malawi bug has bit me big time. i got a 120l tank as a hospital tank for my 50" tank. its to good a tank to waste so i would like to put some river boulders. are ther any malawis suitable for a tank of that size, its 800mm long, 300 deep and 500 high. Pseudotropheus Demansoni are cute wee guys but most people say they need a tank size of 900+ and need to be in a group of 12 or more. would it be too small for 3 yellow labs and 3 white labs?
any suggestions would be great

The labs i think will get too large for a 120L, surely your not fully stocked in your main tank?? Some Pseudotropheus Saulosi or some cynotilapia species could work in a tank that size :good:

Ohh yeah, you are pretty much fully stocked i think, you could add a few more labs to your current 2 though. Is there any other species that you like the look of for the 120 Mate??

i love the Pseudotropheus Saulosi, and the females are a realy nice colour, i would be happy with a few of them if they will be happy in my 120l, there are others i like but they grow to large, in my head i have an image of maybe 8 fish max, some black gravel and a few nice rocks for them to play around in and maybe a few plants if they dont destroy them lol.
when i order fish im going to order another 2 yellow labs for the big tank, i had 4 but 2 kicked the bucket when i stocked my tank, think they got a bit of a fright with others being soo big.
on the plus side i found a area on my living room were i will eventualy put a 6-8 foot tank depending on what i can find

6 to 8ft would be a brilliant size mate i have 225G 6ft myself and i love it. Some Saulosi i think would be the best option and then when you do upgrade you can have all the other larger species your wanting to keep. :good:

Personally i'd opt for a tanganyikan set up in a tank that size, you could get a group of neolamprologus leleupi!!

Those are quite expensive in my part of the world. The only ones that I have seen are £25, each. Ouch!

I have the saulosi. They are about 1.5" at the moment. They seemed like shoaling fish as the females bunches up together in the front of the tank, and not scared of anything outside the tank at all (I have a 2 and 5 year old). The male is changing colour, and is "guarding" or hiding amongst the rocks and does occasionally chase the female out.

Go for it!

nice, whats the dimensions of that tank? im not sure if i should go with a sump for mine or not, i dont have any experience with them but they look great for hiding everything away and adding extra tank volume, and no need to go in the tank for water changes. the only problem would be i have a 8 ft space for it were i currently have a big tv unit with dvd player, xbox, tv, sky etc etc, if i had a sump i wouldnt have any room in the cabinet under the tank to put all my tv stuff
