Hi all, I have had my freshwater tank set up for about 4 weeks now, first i set it all up and added some hardy fish ( corys, plec, silver shark, tetras) and everything was going fine, this week i have added ( 2 female fighters, 1 male fighter, 1 male gourmai, 1 female gourami, 4 ottos)..... things going good for first few days, then today ive had 2 deaths to the plec and female gourami. ive just checked the water and its reading around the 6.0 ph level..... How come all of a sudden this has happened? :( helppppp

My tank -

120 litres
3 bogwood
3 live plants
gravel

Did you cycle the tank?

its not really the PH you have to worry about but the ammonia and nitrite in the water. With 250 odd posts on this forum you must have at least read some threads on how to cycle a tank but your not giving any indication in your post that you have?

Sticking a male and female fighter together ? Are you attempting to breed them? You only keep them together for a few days to do that, else they have to be kept appart.

Chances are your male fighter has killed the gourmai and if thats not the case then your water certainly has. As for the plec death, not many fish attack plecs to its probably water quality.

Get out the test kit, take a reading, do a 50% water change straight away, take either the female or male fighter back to the shop.

How big is the tank? if its not at least 4 foot, take the silver shark back with it, they grow too big.

thats alot of fish in a short time.... sometimes the breeders will have a week hatch, i had that happen to 4 sailfin plecos i had they just werent up to par. but it could just be stress or water quality.
