I originally had 7 ember tetras. I have a 40 gallon with platies, ember tetras, and threadfin rainbow fish. It’s a planted tank and the water parameters are fine. I did my usual 25 percent water change, and a day later the one ember tetra was acting strange and went into hiding, and I’ve never seen it since. All of the other fish are acting normal, greeting me at the front of the tank. I’m not sure what could have went wrong, could it just have been that fish?

It could be an incidental thing. Sometimes there's not a clear reason why a fish dies. Maybe it's age, a weak health or the margins of the water parameters were to much for that fish. If everything else is still okay, I wouldn't worry about it.

If anything I think at this point it was weak health. I got them from a petco not even a year ago so it shouldn’t be age. I’ll keep close watch of their behaviors to make sure there’s no type of sickness going on.
