Well, I don't know how many of you remember my poor little Squishy and his encounter with my kitten. But for those of you who do, he is doing AWESOME! That encounter made him more agressive and will not stop flaring at his reflection when I put his mirror on the side of the tank (yes the spoiled brat has his own mirror) He is now doing awesome in a little two gallon tank with his buddy Frog the Dwarf Frog

I noticed a few posts a cou ple of weeks ago about people wanting to divide their tanks for male bettas

Now some words of advice. If you decide to get the petsmart dividers which have two almost turquois holders that go on the side and a sheet of plastic with holes in it which slide into the holders. I have two of those in my 10 gallon and was getting so pissed off because my fish kept mauling each other.
I made the mistake of setting my tank up first and then inserting the dividers, and that left enough space between the wall of the tank and the holder so that the fish could squeeze through there and beat the other fish up.

Now dont make that mistake if you plan on using those kind of dividers. Here are the steps (I swear if I had these before I bought them I would have non-chewed up bettas):

Step 1. Before you even put rocks in the bottom of your tank, attatch the holders to the sides approximately where you want them, if you have more than one, it will show you how much room your bettas will have.

Step 2. There are metal grips which hold the "holders" (god that's a mouthful) to the side of the tank, making it so that there aren't spaces so the bettas cant squeeze through.

Step 3. Slide the plastic sheet into the two holders and voila you have your divider. But always double check to make sure that there is no possible way for the fish to leave their spot.

Ya I may sound stupid... but once again, if I had known not to put the gravel/rocks in the tank first i wouldve been sucessful... grr

Another problem I encountered was: how the hell do i get the divider to fit in front of the water pump????

Solution: CUT THE PLASTIC, but only enough so it fits like a puzzle piece under the water pump, or whatever it is called.

I havent had any fish beat each other up since AGES!!!!!

I actually bought a nice divider from a web site -- Dr. Fosters & Smith. It works the same way as the DIY ones, and includes metal clips for the sides of the tank. I had to make some minor adjustments to the hood for the clips, but it seems to be working well. I have tetras on one side and my VT on the other. He looks, but he can't touch.

I've included a link for anyone interested, and note, they're not overly expensive.
