I would really love to get three cute cories for my ten gallon tank (complete with betta, of course). I have what I'd call a medium-sized gravel substrate; no sharp pieces. Would my cories be okay? I'd hate to drain the tank and replace the gravel. As a matter of fact, I'd rather consider another fish than do that. Comments? TIA.

I have cories on a gravel substrate, a mixture of one inch pebbles in the back to small 1/4in gravel and all my cories have lovely, long barbels. The barbel erosion has more to do with keeping the gravel clean.

That being said, cories do enjoy rooting around in fine sand. When I added my cories I cleared a small area in my tank and made a cory sand box. They seem to like it.

Hope this helps...
