Hmm, I wonder under what name play sand is sold here, maybe I can get it if I cannot find those flat rocks I wanted. Flat rocks would also be easy to clean as they could be easily picked up the bigger they are and less likely to be moved by fish.
I didn't find that siphon that mom had so I'll have to either buy one or get rocks and wash them manually...

I love sand but find its very difficult to keep clean.

I use quick Crete play sand, and as long as it is washed well. It is perfect for a fish tank

Tried sand (Argos play sand) twice in the past but never realy liked it, probably just a coincidence but both times I used sand my fish got Ich within a week of putting the sand in. The first time was with my Betta, I changed the sand back to gravel and the Ich cleared up.

Second time it was with my Puffer but just to note I did also add salt to the tank after I removed the sand so I am not saying for sure the sand caused the Ich, this is just from my experiance and kind of put me off sand for life

Im sticking to pea sized black gravel from now on.
