I've made a change from bright green, white, and natural shades of gravel (yuck  ), to sand, and it looks amazing! I think it took maybe 2 hours to clean the sand, and 1hr at the most to get the ornaments, plants, fish (try catching 3 scared, energetic Kuhlis in dim lighting! ), and finally the gravel out, get rid of most of the water, put the sand in, fill it up again with fresh water, put the ornaments and plants back in, and then the fish! (maybe that was a bit too detailed...) Anyway, I'll get a pic up soon. :hyper: Anyone else happy with changing their substrate?

I had a tank that had gravel in but changed it to sand, but luckily I was also changing it from coldwater to tropical, so had no fish in it! :p :D

i helped my one friend change his substrate, he has red belly piranhas 6 of them that are in a 175 gallon aquarium. catching those 7-8 inch suckers were mad hard... super long net and not sticking our hands in the water until we moved them to another tank... and then the sand.. oh my god... took hours to do.. he had half of it and i had the other.. hours.. but it looks amazing now. all in a few days work hahah. piranhas didn't seem to care lol. nice white sand with rock/plant 3D background.. with amazon theme. before the white sand it was small black pebbles.

i changed from gravel to sand, it was well worth the hours washing the #40## stuff tank looks great and the fish love it, and its easier to clean too :good:

Likewise i changed too & was well worth it IMO!!! . Bit of a mare getting black gravel clean but end result .... Spot on!! .
