Are bettas a group of fish like cyclids or characins or whatever or is it actually a type of fish? I'm interested to know. Are they the sort of fish that can go in a community tank??

Bettas are siamese fighting fish like the ones shown her:
http://www.bettas-jimsonnier.com/genetics.htm

the males have nice long fins (except if u buy a viel tailed one) and the females have short fins

they are good in a community tank but it depends wat sort of fish you have, like the males wont go with other males and will even kill each other if they are. and it is best not to put them with other labrynth fish such as gouramis.

if you have any other questions I or any1 alse on this board will be happy to answer them. :)

Now now, Veil tails have pretty fins too. They can't help that they are the aftermath of a Betta obssessed trend. Just wait. 50 years from now, Crowntails might end up being in the same boat.

My veiltail has a pretty impressive little tail, but he has a rather long one. (And I really do like my fishie far too much.)

I still haven't decided what Pearl is yet. :) Fins too damaged at the moment. ^_^ Only thing I have to go off of is pretty pronounced V type shapes off his dorsal.

Bettas are pretty fish. Not good for community tanks, though, unless you are E.X.T.R.E.M.E.L.Y. careful.

Good luck.

Becca

p.s. tha'ts a pic of my betta (it's like 1 month old now, he's happily in a 10G tank now), but he's a vieltail

thanks :D do you have a pic of your new betta? i'm really interested in seeing hwat he looks like :D

bettas are anabantoids or labyrinth fish because they have a labyrinth organ that helps them breathe air from the surface.

cutecotton are u sure u got a veil tail there? his fins look a bit long.. i thought they were supose to be short

lol i wish i could say he's another kind, but vietails are supposet to have long fins (right?). plakats and females are hte short finned ones :)

veiltails, halmoons, deltas and crowntails can all have long fins and most of the time do.

o i see so i had it wrong hmmm so i guess that means i have veil tails too then :) hmm does any1 know where i can see pics of all the different tail types?

sushi here. I know tiger barbs aren't supposed to go with these fish but in groups they're not so nippy. I've got 5 and could easily get more. I's wondering if it'd be ok. I have got one gold gourami. It's lovely, never aggressive, i think it's a female. Would a betta be ok. What do they do if I do put them with other fish? Do they attack them? IF I got a male gourami also, would that not be a good idea.
