Stupid Filter

awwww mefilter has broken for sum reason. I washed it and then plugged it back in and now nothing happens. Its new and cost me like forty pound but i dont have a reciept. any ideas?

tap the top of the pump an air bubble may be stoppin it, it happens to mine from time to time.

its a fluvel. well when i plug it in nothing at all happens

Is it an external filter?
Did you turn it on without water being in it?

Check that the impellor (spinny propellor thing inside) is free and can spin using your fingers without the filter being plugged in. Then prime it with water as per your instructions and try again. If there is no noise from the impellor part at all it's either a blown fuse in the plug, a faulty plug socket or a dead filter. Hopefully not the latter.



ps Bacteria will be dying off quickly while your filter is off. You need to get all your old media into a new filter asap to avoid an ammonia spike if you filter is dead.

i think its dead to be honest. I am going to have to buy a new one sigh i will make usre i keep the reciept this time

Have you checked the 3A fuse in the plug?

could well be the fuse mate

and if its not the fuse I'd check the impeller again directly

If it's not the fuse, chances are the impellor needs cleaning out. Cotton buds do the trick nicely

What type of Fluval filter?

I'd put money on it just needing a good clean out around the propeller.
