OK i have had two bettas living together since early January in a 10 gallon Divided tank. every morning they flare at each other but spend the rest of the day ignoring each other. the only time these two fish are ever together is when i have to do a water change and clean the divider, but then they have adult supervision so to speak.
i clean the tank yesterday and replaced the barrier, i must have left enough room for Rayne to jump it from the back of the tank. (there is a small opening and the stupid thing must have taken it.)
poor little thing is defently the looser too looks like he did a number on her fins. i have melafixed and added salt to the tank is there anything else i can do.
rayne is by the way my he/she Betta, while i suspect she is female she has never from what i have seen dropped eggs. she has however also never built a bubble nest, jasper her neighbor has. in fact he had one two days ago before the water change.

i am sealing off the gap with a piece of plastic at the moment until i can get to the hardware store and get some wire screen mesh to close up that rear gap once and for all.

When you mean, the only time they are together, do you mean, when you take the divider out to clean it they have the entire tank space between them and can get to each other?

actually even with the divider out for usually not more then a minute or two to scrub algae off they normally either stay on there own sides ow switch sides. the divider has to be cleaned though because there are holes the algae quickly gets a hold, even the little snails can't keep up some times. i only usually clean the divider once a month. that's the only time they have nothing in between them. 95 % of the time that divider is there.
the only way they can get to each other if some one like today jumps the barrier in the back of the tank. that's the only gap. in the air that the hood does not cover.

tank as it is normally setup

The only thing really is, if you take the divider out and your in the middle of cleaning it and they decide to have a go at each other, How do you immediatly physically seperate them.

You could have a spare divider that you can quickly drop in while you clean the other one. Or scoop them into separate tubs. As you have now discoveed, males and females should not be together in the same space unless breeding.

The divider was UP today. i had not taken it down all day. they JUMPED the barrier!

Um, would you have jumped on her so viciously if she were spawning and the female escaped her chimney? It happens all of the time on here and I've never seen the member attacked. Could it be "Love" that you have some other personal issue with the OP? Care to share?

the bettas are most likely thinking "stupid owner" (as am i)
why dont you put them in idividual cups when cleaning dividers?

what do you mean?

all i was saying is put them in cups while cleaning the divider or tank to escape this happening again!
also if they jumped the divider you should have a higher diveder or lower water.

the divider touches the top of the hood, if you looked at the picture you can see it touches the top of the tank. . however the suggestion earlier of a spare divider is a good one.

no one has answered question is my treatment of Rayne melafix and aquarium salt is ok?

dilute the melafix or you could end up killing her! or buy bettafix

The divider was up! There is no need to call people names. I'm fairly certain that you agreed not to do so when registering for this forum. I think you know what I mean by the above comment...I will not elaborate as I'm not one to attack people in a public forum.
