Well three days ago I walked in the lfs looking for two types of fish a Clown Loach, or a Black Ghost Knifefish. They had both but the BGK didn't look to good and the Clown loachs where a little bigger than I wanted them to be. I like buying small fish and watching them get big. So I looked around and I came across a Striped Spiny Eel. I have heard about these "fish" before. I really liked the idea of them hiding under my sand. Finally something else can stir up my sand besides me . Well the next day I couldn't find him So I cleaned my tank like I do on every Friday I still couldn't find him ever after I cleaned all of my sand. So I lifted up one of my fake rocks and noticed her was under there. So I just left the rock on the side. (On the bottom of the rock there is a hole of molding the rock he went under the sand and came up and went in that hole.) Every 4 hours I would wake up and see if he came out. 24Hours later he was still in there. I was a little worried so I checked it out and he was stuck in there. He went in one hole and came out another but his body wasn't big enough to keep on going though the hole. At first I tryed to push his tail and it didn't work I also tried a few more. So Then It came down to the last option to cut the rock and get him out that way.
We planed every cut and everything was going good but on one of the cuts we scraped him with the blade. This gave him a rug burn effect that is about 2cm long and 3 cm tall. IT is not every big.
After he was free and in the main tank again( I only have one tank) I rushed over of the LFS Where I live there is about 5 LFS. I went to the one that I could trust. I wanted to get some sort of med that would pervent him from getting a infection . He said that maracyn would work. Since the fish is scaleless only use 2 tables then wait a week and do it again.
So far the eel is fine I havnt see him eat but I am sure he is a little sore so he when he feels like it. He isn't digging in the sand anymore I just hope that he is waiting for the sore will heal up.
Time for the question:
Do you think he will be ok? I have a 50 gallon tank and only 3 angels and two Chinese Algae Eaters I have 3 different kinds of freeze dried foods and some sinking pellets that the lady said he feed them. Do you think he will eat when he is ready? ( I havn't see him eat since I have had him) Since he has been ok for a full day do you think I should stop keeping a eye on him and let him live his life?
