anyone ever keep these?

what sort of conditions would i be looking at for them, how big do they grow and how many could i keep in a heavily planted 32l tank?

this is why i dislike common names.

what fish exactly are you enquiring about?
the two puffers that have red-eye as part of the common name are
Carinotetraodon irrubesco & Carinotetraodon Lorteti

just been looking on google, and they didnt look like either of them, obviously they are one of them though

these had very distinctive stripes on, and red eyes

Wolf, found out they are called Carinotetraodon salivator

Basically similar to C. lorteti in size, care, etc. but apparently even more aggressive. In a 32 litre tank, I'd imagine it would be a single male *or* a 2-3 females. But that would be it. If you want to mix males and females you'd almost certainly need a tank much much larger. Or else go for something placid, like C. irrubesco.

Cheers, Neale

thanks neal

i was hoping at maybe getting 2 in there with very heavy planting and lots of wood, but 1 is ok

dont know much about them but i do know that a member has one or two right now. he may be able to give you some good info :good:

I've got one (and I'm selling him). He was a bit of a beast, wouldn't get on with anything after a while. At the moment the only thing I have him cohabiting with is a bristlenose.

Expect to pay a fair bit for these...

ive already seen them in a store by me

they are £30 a pair and i think thats a snip TBH

I wouldn't buy them as a pair if I got them again, i'd get a single fish, and keep that in a tank alone.

PM DarkEntity, he owns one (his female died, think the male killed her) so he can give you some info on them.

I agree, keep one in a small tank and just enjoy it with no strife.

I will back what many are saying. My male killed the female within a week. Unless you plan on a massive tank for two I would keep to having just the one.

My male and female were a positive loving couple, unfortunately my female got out of the tank one day and i found her dead on the floor beside the tank when i got home from work. The male and female co habited perfectly for about 4 months before she died. Having said that i wouldnt recommend a pair to anyone unless they have a spare tank ready on the off chance things go wrong.
