Striped Loach

I just thought i would share my thoughts on these great fish..

its the first time i had never seen them in the shop... i looked them up and found out
they havent been around to buy for a little while, but are making a come back..

im a big fan of the clown loach... but if i had to choose, these little fellas win hands ( or should i say fins ) down.

very nice nature, not shy unlike alot of fish... they are as happy swimming mid/high water as they are at the bottom.

like the wolf said, they are Botia darios. Clown loaches ( Chromobotia macracanthus) are orange with black stripes.

i am very clear on what they are.. and i know the difference between a clown and a stripe..

I just ran into the first group of them I'd ever seen about 2 weeks ago in DC. They were really thin though. The ones in the picture above look to be in good shape.

When I see dario in the shops here, they always strike me as hollow or thin. They fatten up quickly enough when well housed however. In some places they are called "Queen Loaches" for reasons that are not readily apparent.

I have also seen them labeled as "tatooed botias." Not really sure why that is either...

the darios certainly are one of the more rarer species IMO. a 1" botia dario costs around £9 at work
