Stringy bit

One of the little stringy bits on the underside of one of me Gouramis has come off - well, half of it is gone anyway - will this fish be OK, and will the thingy regrow?

Also, do the little stringy bits have a technical name?

Is it part of the fin or maybe it's feces (poo) you saw?

Look, at the bottom of this fish. Those things on the bottom are what I refer to.

Ahhh. Yes, it will grow back. Just make sure you keep the water clean and use conditioners, such as Stress Coat. It will take some time, but it will.

Those are actually a gourami's ventral fins, they are modified for feeling the bottoms of dark murky water for food.
