To be honest with you Ben, I would prefer to not use ammonia. But you hear so much about it it does sound a good idea. I'm going to keep go the way I am until next weekend, then get a couple of platy/harlequins. And take my time.

To be honest, I think Stress Zyme does little to possibly nothing to help cycle a brand new tank. It might be ok to help maintain an established tank, but the only way to really cycle a tank fishless, is by adding ammonia or using organic material (fish food) to start the ammonia cycle.

I've tried Stress Zyme before and just don't see the point in spending the money on something that is really of almost no benefit.

I'll stay with the flake and keep an eye on the tests over the week.

As for the Stress Zyme, I'll use it as I have it.

I have added fish after just one day but only a couple at a time and again I use the filter sponge from an established tank and squeeze it out in some of the original tanks water and add this to the new tank. It will be very cloudy for a day or so untill the new filter has had a chance to pump it through. I also have TETRA BACTOZYM tabs that also add the freindly bacteria as a just in case.
