Strange Zebra Danio Poo

Hi all,

One of my Zebra Danios is suffering from a severe bout of ...well... gas!!

The little fella basically looks like he's swallowed a whole pea (i.e. his belly has a round pea-sized bulge hanging down) and when he defecates, he produces something like this:

...which is not only HUGE (as you can see by the penny sitting next to it), but floats!! So his fecal sac is full of air / gas!! I attempted to disect it (ew!) just incase it was a mass of parasites or something nasty, but it just popped and deflated.


The fish is otherwise healthy (so are the others) and my stats (which I don't have to hand. Sorry!!) are always within normal parameters. I did a 50% water change last week for good measure though and I do 20% - 30% water changes very regularly.

Any ideas?

So there was nothing in the sac like worms.

Feed some peas and no other foods.
Epson salt baths to help draw the fluids out.
Bacterial med if you can issolate.

Anything prutruding from the anus.
Is the anus enlarged or red and inflamed.
Also check all other fish aswell.
Check what it look like when all your fish go to the toilet.
