i was just wondering if anyone could tell me why my corys are starting to lay only partial eggs? they have been laying about once a week since may, and in the last 2 weeks, more than half of the eggs scattered around the tank seem squashed or broken.
is it a nutritional thing? or is this common?
Thanks

This is where the laid eggs have been eaten by the fish in the tank, and thats whats remaining.

It is very common occurance if the eggs aren't removed when laid

Hi mislisa :)

It's also possible that the eggs are infertile or genetically inferior and that the spawning group is eating them. They will do that rather than let them hatch. I've also noticed from your profile notes that you have C. paleatus aka Peppered Corys. Many members of this species will tend to eat their own eggs for no particular reason. If they're in a community tank, other fish would find them a delicacy too. Watch them to see just what is happening here.

it's possible... i haven't actually seen them laying any of these weird eggs, as i'm usually come home to find the tank scattered with them... i just thought it was odd that i hadn't seen this before, as eaten eggs previously just left a small circle on the glass. these mostly still have the membrane, but the inner stuff has been squashed out or something. i'll try to keep an eye on it!
