strange catfish behavior

Hello Guppy Mad- Wow- 55 babies....How many pairs of mollies do you have? What size tank do you have them in? I have heard that live bearers breed well. I will have to see if I would have a place to sell them if I did breed them.....the people here (pet stores, etc) can be kind of "persnickety" (no offense to other Californians), so I don't know if they would be interested. We just have the 4 corys in a 10 gallon tank.....I was told that you could have 1 inch of (fully grown) fish for every gallon, so I figured that 4 was not too many (unless they ever breed:).

Also- Thanks for the info on the plants, Inchworm! They have a plastic plant now, and I terrace the gravel, which they seem to really like. I do a full water change once a week with bottled water (we have well water here) so that keeps them happy. Thanks again.....I appreciate it!

Nice to hear from you both......thanks again!
Hi catfishlover.
Well i have 55 mollies but also 10 guppies and 1 platy and also a platy is due to give birth either tonight or tomorrow so i will have to put her in the net.
I have got two tanks my biggest one (big fish kept mollies, platies, guppies, siemease fighter, etc) is 25 gallon and my small one (baby fish) is 5 maybe 6 gallon.
I had 3 mollies but am giving them to the pet shop because they dont stop mating and the babies grow to slow so i will only be breeding guppies, platies, cory (hopefully) and Rams.
So do you have any other fish or just the corys.
Nice to here from you see you later bye.

Hello Guppy Mad- It's nice that you have a place to sell your fish....especially since you have so many. Have you had pretty good luck (in general) with keeping your guppies? We have a 5 gallon tank that had a siamese fighter (who we lost after 3 years), and I still have not decided what to put in the tank. It has one of those waterfall type filters, so I am afraid that guppies and other smaller fish will get stuck to the intake spout. What kind of filter do you have on your big tank? I have always thought that the little bubble filters didn't really provide enough oxygen for the little guys, but that's just a thought. Let me know what you think if you have time:)
Nice to hear from you again.......thanks for sharing about your fish too!
Talk to you later!

Hi catfishlover.
Guess what my platy gave birth this morning and i have got another 30 or more platies.
Well and in my big tank and little tank i have got an under gravel filter i think they are the best it also depends how many fish you put in the tank because if you over croud it then there wont be enough oxygen in the water so theyw ill always be gasping at the water surface.
and what do you mean have i got good luck with keeping my guppies i dont understand do you mean in keeping the parents, babies or what.
Also have you thought of any fish yet that you would like to put in your fish tank.
See ya later and nice to here from you.
talk to you later bye.

Hello Guppy Mad- More babies!! Was it just one platy that had that many? I am a newbie to fish breeding, so I apologize for all the 'silly' questions. How long do you keep the babies before you sell them?
We were thinking of guppies or some other kind of small fish for the 5 gallon tank. I was curious if they were hardy, and how they got along with each other? It seems to me like some kinds of fish don't do well with their own kind, and it's been a really long time since I have had a big community tank. I would prefer to put the same kind of fish in there instead of a couple of pairs of fish since the tank is small.
The 5 gallon is about 1/2 way ready to go, so I am hoping to shop for "new residents" for it in a couple of weeks.
We picked up a little tunnel for the catfish, but no live plant yet (no salespeople around).
Well, good luck with all your new babies! Nice to hear from you.....
Talk to you later:)
Take care!

Hi catfishlover.
Ye it was just from one platy.
they are very easy to keep and it depends on what kind of fish it is to sell because the molly is a slow grower which i didnt find out until they started breeding so they take like forever.
Platies on the other hand are fast growers and they grow quicker than mollies.
Platies are a nice fish to keep in your tank but remember they have a lot of babies and if you do let them breed you need one male for about two or three females but if you dont want them to breed only buy females because the males fight if you have them together.
But if you want more colour in your tank and also be able to have more fish in the tank then a guppy is a very nice fish to keep because the males are very colourful but the females only normally have colour in there tail it is the same with these fish you should have one male to two or three females other wise the males bit each others tails these also have a lot of babies.
These are some of the fish you could have in your tank but if not then tell me and i might be able to tell you what else would be good or tell me what you like and i will tell you if it goes with your fish.
The molly, platy and guppy are very peaceful fish but you may get the odd mean one. Also if you want more info on these then just ask me and i will tell you because i know more or less every thing about Guppies, Platies, Mollies and i know i sound big headed lol.
Well i hope i have helped you and just tell me if you need help because you said it has been a long time since you have had a community tank.
Hope to here from you soon.
Bye catfishlover.

Hi Guppy Mad- it's nice to hear from you! Did you get to sell your mollies to the pet store yet? It sounds like you have a full house with all the different babies. How are all your babies doing?
So, how are your corys doing? I forgot- how big are yours? I put the new "fish tunnel" in my tank yesterday, but I have not seen them go in it yet. I'm hoping to get a live plant for them today or tomorrow. The three babies have been spending the last day following the adult around everywhere.
I appreciate you answering my questions....I think I have an endless supply of questions! LOL! We are going to set up an undergravel filter and a bubble pump, so I don't have to worry about having problems with smaller fish getting stuck. I am open to what kinds of fish we put in our tank, but would like to make sure that I get something that doesn't grow too big. I don't want to have just one in there because they get too big....or over-crowd them either. I think the guppies are attractive, and I will have to check out the mollies and platys because I can't really remember what they look like. That's good to know about the males getting aggressive towards each other. I know that at the fish store they separate them males and females, so it would be easy for me to pick out what gender I wanted.
I'm sure I will have more questions when I get back from the fish store too.
Thank you for your response and help!
P.S.- if you would rather email, you are welcome to:

If you don't I understand too......just so you know it's OK:)
(I am a little slow with my replies right now- I am starting a new job, and working at home too, so it's a little hectic).
Thanks again.......talk to you later!
