Strange Cat Sounds!

Hello, I have recently moved to a new area and encountered some very strange cat sounds! I have 4 of my own female cats, and have moved onto a street with several male cats. Two of them, which look so similar they could be related are displaying some odd behaviour. They sit opposite eachother but very close for very long periods of time and miaow at eachother but with such astrange sound-the best way I can describe it is that it sounds like two high pitched slurred voices talking. They also shake their jaws at eachother and no sound comes out. This happens until they eventually attack eachother, then they separate and start the process again! Is this some kind of territorial/mating behaviour? Has anyone had any experience of this? The two cats are vey violent to eachother, but the strange sound that they both make is what suprises me the most!

Normal cat fighting noises - almost sounds like elephant trumpeting? LOL - male posturing basically, although my female does it sometimes too.

Maybe I just havent ever heard cat fighting noises like this before! Perhaps these cats just make slightly more unusual sounds than others!

Definatly sound like normal Tom cat behaviour to me.
We had 2 last night out side and they where still howling at 3am but they where after one of our neighbours Maine coon queens although they where wasting their time as she doesnt get out and has a run built onto the house for them

Ive heard them to the point they sounded like two babies crying! It gets pretty wicked, although quite interesting to watch, as you dont see this often in house cats, but more feral cats, its almost like watching the discovery channel lol

our cat sounds like dr zoidberg from futurama, makes a sort of wierd gobbling noise

Sort of reminds me of a lot of bars at around midnight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
