i' am getting a beta and i want something different or oridginal for a home for it. the small aquariums and fish bowls are just boreing. i've seen a picture of a beta living in a large vase with an aquatic plant growing up out of it. i thought this was kinda cool. and it would sure give alot more room than a fish bowl! does anyone have any crasy different (but safe! lol!) ideas??????

Vases, along with MOST bowls designed for bettas, are FAR to small for bettas! They need a minumum of 1 gallon, and NO less. 2.5 gallons is MUCH better, and 5 is even better. But as long as it is over 1 gallon, and is no higher then it is long (in my opinion), it should be ok. It's important to have a fairly unobstructed top, as bettas breathe air. This is why vases with plants are not very good.

As far as creative things... I was thinking about making my own simple tank out of plexi-glass and silicon ^_^ I'm sure if you stay really open and observe everything, you can come up with something creative!

**Edit** I considered going upstairs and getting my dead TV (it's small, just over a cubic foot* and creating a plexi glass case to go INSIDE of it, and turning it into a tank... But I decided it wasn't 'open' enough and would be too enclosed, what with only one clean wall, and also be difficult to clean ^^

thanks for the info! the vase i was looking at it pretty big. at least 2or ^ gallons they are the huge ones

i guess i will keep looking arround and see what i can come up with...

Whatever you end up with should have a lid--bettas are notorious for jumping out, often resulting in devastating results.

I have a betta who lives in a 2+ gallon vase. If you find a nice big one they can make good homes

Petco has some cool round 2-5 gal plastic tanks with snap on top things that could look really cool if you decorated them nicley. Also, I was going to get this tank and take off the filter when I thought I was aloud to get a fish. I think they come in bigger sizes like 3 gallons too.

I like how it has feet!

I used a vase for one of my boys..it holds 1.5 gallons of water and has alot of swimming room at the top and he likes to hide below the leaves of the plant at the bottom. Its like a hideout for him. Here is a pic of the vase:

I just think its just a tad different...

the first one is cute, and it says that it's 2 gallons. you'd just have to make sure not to fill it all the way to the top and leave the top off so the betta could breathe... also, it's pretty expensive, especially since it's missing parts

ah, good thing i asked, see i don't know anything abotu tanks, would it be better then to get one from the pet store?

what abotu this one? this how big do you reckon that'll be? i mean size, i've never really thought about that

the gumball machine looks cool but there is a bid for $43 !!!!!!! ......yeah the 4 gallon looks good 1 you could probably buy one for cheaper than $19.....

ummm... 10 gallons..... normaly i'd say it would be worth it but the price will go up in the next 6 days .... it would be worth the 10 dollars but the shiping will kill you!!! it's probably 40-60 just to ship!!! check out your LPS and you can get a basic bare 10gal for about $10!!
