Hi guys,

Ill be picking up my new tank hopefully soon as ive sold my rio 300! New tank is a custom 78 x 24 x 15 I did plan on going marine but with xmas soon and will be looking at buying a house ive decided to stick to tropical for now!

Im looking for some nice big colourful fishys to fill the tank with, ill be running two external filters.

Any idea on what to fill the new tank with?

Oddball tank?

OR or or!
You could do an authentic amazon biotope.
Angels, neons, corys, the whole lot!

Or...
Discus?

Or...
Rainbowfish?

Or....
Brackish?

The possibilities are endless for that tank.

Ive had a look on a few tropical sites at stocking but cant make my mind up ive thought about cichlids as they seem to be the most colourful fish that i can find at the moment

I can see this been very expensive to fill

So whats that? a ~460L?

I'm still in love with my Barbs, so i would say go for that, but maybe with some of the bigger ones. Get some Rosy's that haven't been stunted (these should grow to 5 inches, but usualy don't...), maybe some Arulius barbs as i think these can look great.
And you might be able to get away with some tinfoil?

Top that off with a bucket load of Odessa barbs and some of the larger plecos and i think that would look good!

Im pretty sure its way more than 460L of water.

Think i may go with cichlids? who knows might change my mind by the end of today!

i think 460 is about right... sorry.

78 X 2.54 = 198cm
24 X 2.54 = 61cm
15 X 2.54 = 38cm

(198 X 61 X 38) / 1000 = 460L give or take...

but i dont think i could resist cichlids either. Thats my plan for my next set-up. you thinking a few big-uns (JD's, texans etc) or more little-uns?

Is your tank 15" high? just wondering because Frontosa are very skittish fish and to better in a higher tank (20") also the depth of 15" (front to back) maybe a little tight for a full grown male front.

So can all the above be put in same tank? Ill need do some reading on them as its one sort of fish that ive never looked into.

As said unfortunately due the odd height (or width, whichever the 15" refers to) you have lost a lot of potential volume.

The mbuna cichlids listed above should all be ok and the general adult size for mbuna (6") would be ideal in this sized tank, I would however avoid the fronts as star has stated above along with the larger haps like the Venustus and Super VC-10 which again get to around 10-12"

Could do an awsome sized school of M. lacustris or M. bosemani rainbowfish, or even Barilius species like the colourful "sp.2 bakeri" or "canarensis," the length of the tank would be a superb workout for them!

+1 your long tank would be excellent for river/fast swimming fish.
What about 10 Bengal Danios, they are stunning when mature
