Stocking Suggestions..!

Hi guys,

I finally finally managed to get rid of my damsel problem from my main display aquarium. Only cost me £150 for an additional tank... (present for my wife ) a ruined carpet, 1 dead fish (rock fell and crushed one of them) and an afternoon of rescapeing my tank (had to remove all the LR, damsels sure are a b***h to catch.)..


Any how...

My initally hopes/plans were for a really timid peaceful tank..

Currently stocking:

4x Yellowtail damselfish (they were the only peaceful ones from my previous stock)
5x Blue/Green Chromis
2x Percula Clownfish
1x cleaner wrasse
1x starfish (unknown type)
1x Sea urchin
2x blue knuckle hermit crabs
1x Green bottom anemone


Future stocking plans: * items stared are def.. others are just ideas on the workboard.

1x Seahare*
1x Poormans moorish idol*
1x copperbend
1x flame angelfish*
1x longnose butterfly fish
1x firefish (dart?)
2x seaslugs

Any and all suggestions are welcomed..! I may get add a few more damsels and chromis as I like the way the different grp of fish school around. But i want a few really nice ones to show out too.

Sounds good. Be very careful with the starfish (and future sea slugs) as most of them are not well suited to aquaria for one or more reasons. Also add the copperband before the longnose... as for suggestions, how about fairy wrasses or a Naso tang?

Lastly, do you have a scientific name for 'green bottom anemone'? I ordered a "red bottom anemone" months ago and it turned out to be what I believe to be an Urctinia species... looked great but was bleached and died days later.

Wow... the Naso tang looks really appealing. But does it have the same ICH issues as the blue tang? (cuz i'd rather prefer to avoid ICH as much as I possibly can.. never exp it with s/w, but f/w sure was a *****).

Soz m8, dont have a clue to its true scientic name. But from what I can tell you it has a light green bottom, and white/pink top. I've had it for about 6 months - my oldest anemone w/exception of Aiptasia..

how big is this tank Zeo? Naso's get BIG and prolly require at least 100gallons.

As for the sea hare, you NEED foam covers for the inlets of any powerheads or powerfilters. If you don't have them, the hare will wonder over them, and get its soft body sucked in and shredded.

Its 260 Lts (Juwel vison 260). So I geuss might be a little too small for the Naso.

Sea Hare: ... I know exactly what you mean. I lost my first hare a couple of months ago. Really liked the lil (BIG) fella, did wonders for the algea growth in my tank. Everyone else thought he was a monster of a slug, but I really was quite fond of him. RIP little fella - died in a cylinder powerhead inlet, compressed to the size of about a pound.

Def gonna get another one - removed all the bad powerheads, replaced with better, more protected p/h's.

Is there any jawfish (type fishes) anyone can recommend for my tank? I like the idea of the jawfish, but kinda wanna avoid getting a jawfish as they seem v.frail and have lost atleast 3 so far.. (longest being 24h)

Gobies perhaps?

Pearly jawfish are supposedly hardy once they are settled in.

Mine dont seem to last more the 24hours... Althru everything else settles in fine.
Sand depth is 6" atleast 8" in some places. (if anything I think I went a little overboard with the sand). They never seem to start digging in my tank, only trying to jump out and end up settling in a corner, to be found dead in a powerhead the next morning..

Where are you getting them from?

First one was from Tropicalfish4u.co.uk - Completly vanished after realising in my tank, never seen it since. So prob got stucked into one of the powerheads/filters or eaten by my starfish/crabs.

The other 2 were from ManorAquatics in London (LFS). All there fishes seem to be pretty good quality. Althru the 2 jawfishes I had were pretty small, 1 last 24hours.

Its really sad, cuz after reading some of the post about the mischief these things get up to, I really wanted one, maybe 2.

Maybe just bad luck?

I guess. I think it's just hard to get a healthy one.
