I recently setup a tiny coldwater tank for my little boy as he wanted his very own fish but I can't help but get the urge to setup a tiny pico style marine tank.

Bear in mind I have an abundance of cured lr to drop in out my nano [gonna put 4kg in] and i can keep 5L of of 25L salt ro mix aside for the tank when I do a wc on my nano for wc on the 8G

It will be running skimmer less as i will be doing weekly wc and feeding the bare min for what ever stock I can have.[unless I can source a new cup for my spare skimmer and cut out a weir].

The tank has 3 weirs in the back which I plan to drop the obvious in [lr rubble, rowaphos, carbon] and I'll be upgrading the stock 400lph pump to the old 720lph out my nano [400lph will then be used for my mixing salt] and a 900lph koralia nano ph will be suppling the flow.

I Have got a heater lying around and the T5 lighting in there is the same wattage per litre as my nano so I might put a tiny frag of zoas in there.

What fish, if any, could I get away with in there. Obviously i'm not gonna drop a 5" regal tang in there or any clowns for that matter but could I get away with a very small cuc inc a cleaner and maybe a goby to go with it.

Could I get away with a tiny Humbug damsel on his own?

Plan to set it up next time im bored which, with MY lifestyle, will prob in an hour or 2! lol

Ummmm a clown goby will just fit, I keep a pajama cardinal in my 8g but it is a dark tank (no light to to stress a nocturnal fish)

Tbh besides a clown goby you may get away with a goby/shrimp pair but I would say that's about it.

yeah tbh i'll probably just have inverts anyway as my little boy loves my cleaner so he'll be happy with one of them and a couple of hermits, turbo's etc.

might do a goby/shrimp pair but as that will be on the limit i'll defo have to do weekly wc or add my skimmer to cope.

The one fish in the tank at the mo has got terrible fin rot so once he calles it a day [know it sounds horrible] then i will convert to salt.

Might do lil journel lol One page and it will be finished!

may i not suggest a small trip to my side????????????? cool inverts, feather dusters and strange LED lighting beckons not to mention weird corals!

It's certainly tempting but the tank is in my little boys room and i dont want him having a better looking tank than his old man's! lol

Plus i'd have to change the light and it's a plug n play tank with lighting built into the hood.

Don't worry tho as i WILL be venturing to the dark salty side one day!.............Hopefully soon!

Just keep updating yours so I can get an idea of whats involved! lol

Lol you make it sound as if I have an idea about what I am doing :)

Right! The stocking is now sorted!. My boy wants a cleaner shrimp and some snails! and thats it. But I'm gonna go with a shrimp/goby pair as originally planned and a couple of red hermits.

He almost cried when he said he wanted a ''dory'' fish and i told him that he can't have one because when the tang is fully grown he'll be wider than the tank!

If only I could get away with a yellow tailed damsel as that would fool him!

Coral wise i'm going for a xenia garden I think. HG & Spadge better have a healthy supply of it! lol!

Anyone wanna throw a curveball in, in terms of stocking ideas?
