Stocking Question

I wish my camera was still working. They have changed much since those pictures were taken. Now the top half varies from a steel blue to a dark blue and even purple sometimes. Their body shape has changed too. Amazing fish, the range of colors shown are spectacular. I didn't get mine from a LFS though. I bought them from a breeder in California. They are by far some of the best I have ever seen. I was very lucky.

Nice. Yeah. How long do they take to get full grown? My plan IS to go 55+ in the future, but not for another couple of years. I am "trying" to find a home for them, but aside from just giving them to a lfs, I havent had any luck. Would that be too long to wait?

Anyway, about the filter media..I noticed Fluval makes a weird looking "pre-filter" noodles, and then the rounded "biomax" type. I read the back but want to make sure you were refering to the round biomax?

Yes, the round ones will do the job nicely.

My rainbows aren't full grown yet. They top out at around 5 inches and they are about 4 inches now. At 4 inches their growth slows down as far as lengthwise but picks up making them more deep bodied and quite a bit thicker. If you have ever seen a full grown rainbow you would see why the minimum tank size is as large as it is. They get very deep bodied and rather thick.

Youre right I never have. I will get the media this weekend..thanks for that. How long until they get to your size they are now?

Mine are about 20 months old by my estimate. I wasn't given the day they were hatched, but judging by the growth of their offspring, they were about 4 to 5 months old when I got them.

THanks drobyb...one last question..Im trying to decide on that media between a bigger box or a smaller box...ill have enough to fit two canisters if I get the big one, so, like a carbon filter, does it need to be replaced every now and then, or just rinsed like ypou suggested? If it doesnt ever need to be replaced ill get the smaller one...thanks.
