Okay, I've had my 30 gallon running for a little over a month. Unfortunately I was told wrong by the LFS and did a fish in cycle, but I lucked out and didnt lose any fish. My stock right now is 2 Bolivian Rams, 4 emerald cories, and 4 yoyo loaches. THey are all very entertaining and active, but all stay near the bottom.

My tank is decorated with rock and fake driftwood, with a patch of plants toward the rear. I used playsand as the substrate, which my cories and loaches seem to love. I feed them Wordleys Cichlid Crumbles, Hikari Sinking Wafers, Frozen Brine Shrimp, Shrimp Pellets, and some tropical flake. I alternate between these, trying to use the crumbles and flake as their staple.

I'm looking for a middle dwelling fish to fill out my tank. I wouldnt mind a nice shoal of smaller fish, or a couple larger ones. I was thinking of getting a couple angelfish, but was worried there wouldnt be enough room. I also thought about 6-8 tiger barbs, but was scared they would nip my Rams fins. I love the looks of them but dont want my other fish injured. I'm also open to almost any barb/tetra/danio that would be compatible and a mid to top tank swimmer.

Also, I was told by the LFS to try dropping in some cucumbers or lettuce sliced up really thin, for my fish would this be a good idea to supplement their diet? Any feedback is appreciated, and Iam fairly new to this so if I'm doing something wrong let me know.

If you want to get angelfish, it would be on the small side to put more than one in the tank if you are looking to put more in than just the angelfish. also tiger barbs would be to aggressive with the angelfish. if you wanted the tiger barbs, u shouldnt get the angel, but you could if you like get a few gouramis, or cardinal tetras. if you are to get the tetras with an angel though, you will want to be careful as some tetras can nip the fins of the angel causing stress and killing it. basicaly it can go either way. if i were you i would go with the angel and get cardinal tetras as a big shoaling group.

I don't think your tank is tall enough for angels, you need an 18" tall tank.
I would go with tiger barbs, as long as you get a group your other fish should be fine. If you can I would get 8 small ones and add them all at the same time. Just make sure you keep up with water changes. :)
