Stocking New Tank

id your going to stick with this stock list. you need to do frequent water changes. once a week
i agree lucy, do a 25% water change every sunday or soemthing, thats what i do, keeps the water nice and fresh and the fish happy.
the stocking sounds great, you should updates with pictures when you get the new fish

That list would make you hugely over stocked. Almost double what you have the capacity for. You need to cut down the numbers drastically or wil end up with very poor water conditions and ultimately many deaths, algae problems etc. Sticking roughly to the 1" of adult fish per 1 US gallon stocking capacity you only have the space for around 15" of fish total. Cherry barbs = 1", Honey Gouramis = 2", Harlequins = 1.5" and panda cories 2". Doing the maths for your current stocking list that's around 34" of fish. My advice for stocking would be to lose the cherry barbs completely and go for:

5 harlequins,
5 panda cories
1 honey gourami and the shrimp.

Even this is slightly over stocked for a 60 litre tank but will avoid any water quality issues as long as feeding is kept minimal and water changes are done weekly.

:good:

I would strongly advise against doing this. Overstocking causes so many problems with poor water quality. The last thing I want is for you to suffer deaths and loads of algae issues, which you inevitably will if you are overstocked that much. If you went with 5 pygmy cories instead of the pandas you would probably just have room for 3 extra harlequins or one extra honey gourami.

:good:

What about 5 pygmy cories
5 cherry barbs
6 harlequins
5 cherry shrimp
1 honey gourami

Nope still over stocked

You just don't really have room for decent sized schools of 3 different species. If you lose the honey gourami and two harlequins from the above list then you are just about stocked OK. I wouldn't suggest you go for less than 5 in a school either so you can't reduce the numbers of barbs, harlequins or cories to this level to make the stocking better.

:good:

i think the inch a gallon should be used whilst starting an aquarium. when you know your tank is fully matured ie 4-6 months.(ammonia nitrates etc all remain stable) you can switch to the 1cm of fish to 1 litre of water rule.

ps. i strongly advise you to get the API 5 in one test kit and an ammonia test kit around £10 for 5 in 1 and about £5 for the ammonia, and test your water each week and keep a record of you stats

and your better off with 2 gouramis.

start off with the cherry barbs(6). leave 2 weeks add harlequins (6). then the cherries(5) then leave your tank a month to 6 weeks then add the pygmys wait 2 weeks then add the gouramis. your stocking looks fine to me.

just make sure you keep on top of water changes and check your water stats each week and act accordingly. :good:

Wait there i've considered platys as i want some babies lol. So
1 male 4 female platies?
5 pygmy corys.
5 cherry barbs all males okay?
5 or 6 harlequins
3 cherry shrimp
2 honey gouramis

With 2 water changes a week?

How about this:

6x Harlequins
5x Pygmy corydoras
2x Honey gouramis
4x Cherry barbs
The shrimps.

The PFK calculator recommends 13" of fish for the first six months or so, however you may be able to increase it to 24". But with the fish you want you will have around 28" of fish and this will be pushing it.
