Stocking New Tank

The only problem would be that i'd have to find them. The only fish store i have around here is Petco or Petsmart, and a small new store that is just setting up (seems to be the more promising though).

These aren't rarer, but they are more unique. If we have the same attitude towards aquarium fish, you'll probably won't like small and common fish like Tetras, Danios, etc., right?

If this is the case, check out loaches, rainbowfish, killifish, elephant nose, red tailed black shark, hatchetfish, or some pufferfish. Maybe a species only puffer tank?

i have some zebra danios, and some tetras. I plan on moving all but my hi-fin black skirts to my 50 gallon at work. Right now. My plan is to put my 5 zebra danios and 2 guppies in my 10 gallon, keep my 2 black skirt tetras and a black molly in the 50 gal that i want to stock. I'm going to move my 3 silver tip tetras and my albino glo lite tetra to my 10 gal at work, and i'm going to move my black molly fry to a tank at work when they get big enough.

So i'm looking for something colorful and less-common to keep with my 2 black-skirts, and a black molly. I'm definately going to get a Blue Ram or 2. Possibly a dwarf gourami, something along those lines.

I really want color. I love beautiful vibrant colors. My only problem is that i'm not a pro at compatibility, and i want to make sure that all my fish are going to be ok.

PS. I dont mean to come off as a butt face either lol. I just have a hard time explaining what i'm looking for. Thanks for your input everyone, and i'm open to any more suggestions!

I'd concentrate on fish that suit your existing tank conditions and you know you can care for, rather than fish that will impress your friends. Any well-maintained and thoughtfully stocked tank should impress anyone.

I've been told that the only truely suitable fish to keep with angels are gourami, pleco and large tetras ( NOT NEONS ). But check that with other members.
You could look for Mono-angels which are gorgeous looking but you'd have to check up on them as they may be brackish and i'm unsure of suitable tank partners.

I keep all sorts with my angels, small tetras (neons, glowlights, blue tetras), medium tetras (black widows, columbian, penguins, emperors), cories, rainbow cichlids, platies, and in my other tank - parrot fish, plecs, rainbow cichlids, boesmanni rainbowfish and brochis splendens.

So you can keep a bit more than just gouramis and big tetras in with them ;) Incidentally, in our heavily planted community (the one with the tetras in it) - we've not lost a fish to an angel fish yet. And we've had them a year, and they have bred in there too. I still wouldn't recommend keeping small tetras in there, but it can work sometimes in rare occasions like ours, when they're raised together and there's plenty of hiding places that the angels cant get to ;)

I knew that...
:look:

African Butterfly fish are unusual and very odd to the non-fish keeper and a 55 gallon would be appreciated by one of these. Peacock Spiny eels are oddballs but need sand/ very fine non-sharp gravel and a totally sealed tank.
Elephant Noses are good but will need a well set up tank and back to the eels they can be a downright pain to get to eat and need a well set up tank... well every fish should have a well set up tank really. ( meaning fully cycled and with good Ph, Nitrate, hardness levels)

Rainbowfish can be a good addition. They are decent size (~4 inches is common) and can be very colorful as they mature. There are many different species, some rare and some pretty common. They are ravenous eaters by most accounts, but relatively peaceful.

Nice colorful ones that aren't too hard to find include bosemani and turquoise varieties. Most of them look better in person than in photos as you can get different colors reflecting off their scales which doesn't show up real well in a photo. Also note they look better after they leave the petstore as most are immature and washed out from stress.

Someone else may need to chime in with their compatability with angels.

The angels arnt really a concern of mine anymore. I really like the blue rams. Also the rainbow fish have beautiful colors. My tank is very well set up in the sense of water conditions, the only thing that is not set up are the actual structures in the tank. Which i will do very soon, before i stock the tank.

if you want real colorful fish u could look into killis, rainbows,or some smaller fish like neos or sokme sort.tetras dont reallyt tickle me like bigger fish though.
