hello guys just looking for some advice as to what order i should the fish to my tank following its cycle! bascailly what order form the following?

2 gold rams
4 blue rams
20 neon’s
10 fire head tetras
3 Cory (a)
3 Cory (
7 otos

Hmmm... most aren't massively hardy. I'd go for cories first. I have no idea how hardy rams are, so you'll have to wait for someone better to come along.

After it is completely cycled, I would put the hardiest fish in fish, just incase the levels are off a bit, then proceed any order after that, I would put the tetras in next.

I noticed you had Rams(beautiful fish). I want to get some, but not enough room in my current tank, and my next venture will probably be salt.

Are you doing a fishless cycle? Because if you are it is advise to add ALL the fish at once (or atleast most) after the cycle is complete. The reasen being because once you are done the cycle, if you only add a few fish, then your bioload will adjust to the few fish. Then, if you add a few more the next week, your going to run into a mini cycle. If you add them all at once this won't happen. But you have some sensitive fish, so you might want to wait to add those until your tank is established for awhile.

I would certainly not add all the fish at once, unless you have been cycling your tank with huge amounts of ammonia.

The fishless cycle will be enough to get a colony of bacteria growing but it won't be big enough to hold a whole tank being thrown at it. If you put a small number of fish in there will be a mini-cycle as the fish are added, but if you add them all you will get a huge spike and the whole tanbk will re-cycle with some pretty bad results. Mini cycles occur all the time, just on a really small scale. On almost any tank there will be fluctuations in the size of the bacteria colony and the ammonia output of the fish, causing mini-cycles as the tank reacts.

I'd recommend a few (maybe 5 or 6) Neons first. then a couple of weeks later another batch of neons.

Then the cories.

Once that amount is settled in nicely then you can add small numbers of any of the other fish as the tank will be far more able to cope with new fish.

I would add;

All the cories then 4 blue rams then 10 firehead tetras then 2 gold rams then 20 neon tetras then 7 oto's.

Hope that helps,
Dman

I also would add the Cories first, since they seem to be the hardiest fish you have there. Then I'd add the Firehead Tetras. I've found that Neon Tetras, and Rams seem to do much better in a tank that has been going for at least a few months, so I'd wait a little bit to add them. Otos could probably go in a little sooner then the Rams and Neons.

Just my opinion. :)

ok so the new info is very exciting but i can get cardinals instead of neons for the same pirce does this effect thigns much????

cories, fireheads, otos, rams, cardinals...

also, if this is the same size tank as before (i hope i am remembering the right member, lol) we recommended against 3 pairs of rams...i think 2 pairs is more than sufficient

yeah sorry we did your right and i am down to two in plan but i copied and pasted stock list stright form that orginal post and just didnt remember to change it

Well then...thats what I was told over at "Flippers n' Fins" (message board, like this). Maybe I'm getting confused with adding boispira? Maybe if you cycle with that then you have to add all the fish straight away...I don't know.

well the point of cycling is to create a bacteria colony before you introduce fish....depending on how much ammonia you actually used through the process determines how much bacteria your created.......if you dont add any fish after cycling for some days, then the bacteria will die off....if you add too many, the bacteria wont be able to handle the bioload and ammonia/nitrite levels will probably become toxic....

IMO there is no such thing as adding too FEW fish after cycling....basically what will happen is a certain amount of bacteria will feed off of the fish waste and toxins and the remaining bacteria will die off....the water parameters should remain good and the bacteria count high enough to handle those fish....assuming you add new fish AFTER these slowly, the bacteria colony will have enough time to reproduce to keep up with the newly introduced fish waste..

hope that helps a little by putting it in a straightforward relationship
