Stocking Ideas For A 130 Gallon (~500l)?

the problem with 50% changes is that its a 65 gallon change, and i have chlorinated tap water
dechlorinate it then...or you can ring your local water board and ask if they use chlorine or chloramine...if its chlorine you can blast the water into the bucket and then splash it about and it will gas off.

or buy pond dechlor as its concentrated and costs nothing

but that doesnt solve the original question, does anyone have any ideas on what i can stock my tank with, if i get rid of the rosy barbs and the betta, and ticto and crab.

You really need to dump the book and read about the nitrogen cycle and fish-in cycling (which is what you are doing now) on here. Chances are you are going to lose most, if not all, your fish.

Well meaning 'experienced' friends can be a very dated source of information.

You should already have dechlorinator - it should be used at each water change.

To be kind to your fish get a decent one like seachem prime that will help de-toxify the ammonia and nitrite.

Worry about your stock once you have cycled the tank and see what is left.

You definately dont want to be adding anymore fish whatsoever until the cycle has totally finished, read the links in my signature regarding cycling.

With a tank that size, I tend to agree with Wills. I think its a waste of a nice tank by keeping small community fish in it, but its down to personal choice.

If it was my tank, my main fish would be an oscar but obviously you couldnt keep ANY of the fish you currently have with an oscar and you have to be really careful about what fish you do keep with them as an oscar will eat just about any fish small enough to fit in its mouth.

Also your filtration isnt anywhere near high enough for an oscar and is quite low for a general community tank, you are only running at 2x turnover. On a tank that size you really need 2 good external filters running

Like most have mentioned, cycle the tank before adding any more fish...Water Changes will help keep your current fish healthy and alive, while still maintaining your cycle as the bacteria is in the filter media not the water.

As far as new stock, this is the best time to plan it. If you want an Oscar, as has been said, you will have to bump up the filtration and you'll only be able to give it a few tankmates, none of what you have already. List the fish you have an interest in and others can then reccommend suitable tankmates.

it should be done cycling today or any day soon, im going to be adding a peat moss filter, and will lowering the ph to approx. 6.4-6.8, would german/bolivian rams work, and if i add 20 or so neons and a few angelfish

The angel fish will eat the neons when it gets large enough.

Neons are natural food for angels in the wild and shouldnt be kept together in the same tank.

Black neons should be ok as these grow larger than the standard neons.

Personally, if i hade a 500L tank (im getting one in 2 weeks 60x24x24) id have bigger fish in it eg. pleco's, reedfish, oscar, sharks or somthing, wouldnt waste a good size tank on small fish :p, but thats my personal love for bigger fish so yea, GL anyway.

id like to do big fish as well bala, but ive spent a lot of money on live plants and i have some fish already, im going to europe for a year in 3 years so when i get back ill probably restock it with large fish.

would cardinal tetras work with angels, i personaly dont like the look of black neons.

the harlequins actually died of ich, but does anyone know if cardinals would be ok?????
