I am moving my goldfish from my 28gal to a pond. I moved my two rosy red minnows into my 10 gallon with my six plates, 3 guppies, and snail until I clean out the 29gal. I am breeding the platies and guppies. I want about 35-40 fish total in my 29. Could I get mollies and swordtails? I don't want them to breed but I don't care if they breed with the olther fish because Ive heard the offering are infertile. So with those numbers in mind, how many mollies and sword tails can I get and what genders?

35-40 mollies & swordtails in a 29 gal would be well overstocked.
Swordtails can get up to 4/5 inches & mollies 3/4 inches
You could get away with maybe 6 of each, but if they breed, then again you'd soon be overstocked

I have a cichlid tank, I'm not worried about getting over stocked. I know it's mean..

I'll reask the question.
I want the majority of fish in the 29gal to be platies and guppies. How many mollies and swordtails can I get and what gender?

And how many total of each type of fish in the tank?

How many platys & guppies will be in the 29 gal?

Currently I have 2 female guppies and one male guppy, 2 male platies and 4 female platies. I also have somewhere between 15 and 20 guppy fry that I have in a different tank. I don't plan on keeping all of them, maybe 4 or 5 of each generation and then selling the older ones. This goes for the platies too. I only plan on keeping a fraction of each birth. Then after I run out of room, I will keep only one gender of all fish.

So lets say I'll have like 10 guppies and 15 platies.

Then imo you're stocked, adding any swordtails or mollies, you'd be overstocked

With only 25 fish? Couldn't I have 4 more? The guppies and platies are about an inch each. Some less.

But they can grow to 2 inches. You need to consider adult sizes, but IMO it's more about tank size and filtration capacity than size of fish, and I agree with caz that's stocked.

With my current numbers then, would I have room? 6 platies and 6 guppies. (3 of them being fry I want to keep). Would I have enough room? And if so what for?

I'd say you'd be fine with 8-10 of each then keep the fry you wish to.

(Only platies and guppies)

If you kept only what you had, I'd say maybe 1-2 swords (female swords look just like big platys btw) and maybe 2 mollies, but it'd be kind of a waste of space IMO.

I think I might only get 2 mollies. I'll think about it more before I do anything though.
