Hello. I was just wondering... I have a 50gal tank with 3 BP's, a sliver dollar, a Angelfish and a cherry barb [all still very small]. But I was wondering what other cichlids would go good with these fish before I add to the tank, ect.?

Thanks,
-Nik

3 BP's are gonna fill up a 50gal, you might get away with maybe a pair of bolivian rams.Btw the cherry barb will probably end up on the BP's menu.

if the BPs don't get it, the angel might when it gets full grown. i agree. it looks like when the tank inhabitants grow to their adult size, you'll be pretty much maxed out.

how big are all the fish now? maybe you could get away with a temp set up (though not recommended) if their sizes aren't too bad.

I'd get rid of everything but the bps..

Having 1 cherry barb is not a good idea.. either is having 1 silver dollar.. they're schooling fish and are probably very stressed being by themselves.

and I don't really see an angel standing up to a bp long term.

Yes I would agree. I would add some more silver dollars and barbs. Maybe 1 or 2 bloody parrots.

The tanks not big enough for more of either.

Oh, ok. Got it.

"I'd get rid of everything but the bps.." - See, I can't do that. I don't have anyone who will take any of my fish.

"how big are all the fish now? maybe you could get away with a temp set up (though not recommended) if their sizes aren't too bad." - the BP's are only about 4 to 5 in. right now. everything else is pretty small (sliver is only about 3 in and angel is only about 2-3 in)

How big of a tank are you guys thinking I would have to have? just wondering, I can't buy another tank but I was just wondering.

thanks,
-Nik

i would've taken the angel if i still had my community tank. it would get eaten in all of my tanks.

look into a local lfs to take the fish off of your hands. those sizes you should probably only have the blood parrots in there. silver dollars grow large, and are skittish schooling fish. the ange might be ok for a little while but the cherry barb will eventually become food and the silver dollar isnt good at all.

like i said an lfs should take them off of your hands for you.

Return the fish to your LFS. They'll be better off.

For the proverbial record, cherry barbs are not schooling fish but they still don't do well on their own. They are better off kept as trios.

The silver dollar is deffinately a schooling fish though and, due to size, cannot be kept in this tank permanently (as you don't have room for more).

Angels can get nasty when kept on their own and I don't know whether keeping one with bps is the best idea anyway (though I have no experience with bps). You don't need to worry about an angel eating a cherry barb though - they'll eat smaller fish like neons but cherries arejust about large enough to not become lunch (don't know what the bps think about this though!).
