Quite a few people are going to disagree with you. Considering a standard 55 gallon is 12" wide, and oscars can get up to 14"....doesn't seem right, does it?

Anyways, thats great halfbloodprincess that your moving all your fish into the bigger tank, I'm sure they'll appreciate it.

Thanks I am excited! And yeah it doesent seem right! They wouldent be able to fit in the tank! But anyway I am just happy that I have made up my mind!!!

I don't know about a 55 gallon tank being 1' wide because my 30 gallon tank is 1' 1".

It is only 12 inches wide, trust me. I wouldn't lie, I have one myself that I measured. Also, tanks are all different widths, lengths, and heights, and just because the tank holds more water does not mean it will be wider. For example, my 55 gallon is 12 inches wide but my 48 gallon is 18 inches wide. Hope that cleared things up

some discus would be pretty cool but uve already made ur mind up plus discus arent for beginers if u r one as for the oscar in the 55 this does not work well its been tried (by me)not good at all

On the basis of all those fish, I too have a 55 Gallon

All I want is

1 Shark Catfish
1 Rainbow Shark
2 Corey Cats
1 Flying Fox
1 kind of Pleco



Im told I dont have enough room for this in certain forums

I know a oscar would deffinatly out grow an 55 gallon. I wouldnt want to put it in too small a fish tank. The fish wouldnt even be able to fit in the tank! Well any way I am glad I have made up my mind and thanks for all the help everybody! But I do like the sound of discus!

My dad's oscar, which he had in a 55, did look very crowded when it reached full size. And there was no room for any tankmates, which, in my opinion, really liven things up - when the oscar was smaller he had in a pelipterous (sp) a channel cat and a common pleco. Too bad he couldn't get a bigger tank for all those jumbo fish! (and he pretty much relied upon bad advice from the lfs) But when it came time to have to give some of the fish away, the oscar was the hands down choice to stay! Those fish really have personality!

Just getting back to Tetra, a single oscar could definitely live in a 55 gallon tank.

Well I use the fish index on this forum, so to say 55 gallon is fine for an Oscar would be the same as to say the fish index is wrong and I somehow find this very hard to believe.

Someone should make a pinned topic in the newbie section about buying fish that grow huge. I saw these cute little 1" oscars, plecs, and clown loaches that no newbie would even think would grow to 1'.

Yes newbies should know about the adult sizes of these fish. Cause at petstores they sell them when they are 1 to 2 inches long, and the people who buy them dont know that they get to be more than a foot long! That would definatly be a good topic. It would be helpfull too!
