Stocking Help With A 55 Gal.

What fish are you interested in?
There are many big fish---cichlids, catfish, oddballs, for example--- that could call a 55g home, but for the best advice possible, please direct us toward a group that you find interesting :)

Personally, medium-large cichlids are my favorite, particularly Severums and Uarus, they are like discus without all the color...or difficulty :p

your 55 could do this if you wanna go all out fun and cash.

1x Senegal Bichir (pay 5 for a reg at petsmart, pay $30 for an albino. Albinos are worth it)
2-3x Peacock eel ($20-$25 for the both of em about, maybe 37 for 3 tops)
5x Roseline Sharks (A whoping $30 a piece, but they get to 6 inches. Nice colourful fish)
1x African Brown Knife Fish

Then the rest is up to you pretty much. I'd heavily plant it, and in the final stages, add in a single angel, or a pair, depending. But It looks like a smooth tank. Sand Substrate would be a must because of the eels. I hope some of those might help!

However, if you buy the eels, you may never see 'em. :p

A couple of angels could work. Gouramis (well... not sure if you would consider them big... :p).

Larger rasboras/ rainbows.

would clown loaches be okay?
:D

I like the sound of the eels and the african brown knife fish and the angels. :D But I have never heard of roseline sharks. :)

It depends on what water you have (unless your using RO) if you had quite hard water i would deffinatley go for a really well planted tank with maybe some dwarf cichlids at the bottom (still dont think you can beat the old faithful kribs) and to fulfill the "big" part of the message get some of the larger species of rainbows they wont loose their colour when they get larger and will look amazing with 55g to shoal in. madagascan rainbows would be my choice theyll get to 12cm if you keep them well fed or if you wanted more colour a lot of the australian rainbows (herberaxelrodi, lacustris, and macullochi) will reach similar sizes and will look so good against a lush green background.

Never see the eels? They get up to a foot long, and yes, they do bury, but just snac the survace and you'll see their head. Or look up in your plants and they'll be there. Designing the tank around a fish is half the fun.

Keep in mind, that an oscar will require a much larger tank at some point. You can read about them in the fish index.

Smaller cichlids would be nice though.

I have made my disicion. I am putting all my fish that are in my twenty nine gallon tank into the fifty five gallon tank. That way I can get more platys, danios, neon tetras, and corydoras! ^_^ YAY! I am also going to plant the tank better. I didnt do a very good job with the twenty nine gallon. I put pink gravel in it and I regretted it after, cause the water has a pink tinge to it . Now I am going to go for a little more natural look. Also I will have more room to breed fish! YAYAYAY! I am very excited. :D

I will also post pics when they are all set up including the breeding tanks!

BUT it would out grow it fast, and they are better in a bigger aquarium. I agree I would have to rehome it. :) I wish I could put an oscar in it though. I absolutly love oscars  ! I dont know why but I just do. They are just so cool. :D

I don't know if it's just me, but that seems like quite a lot of fish to have in there, esp once they reach thier mature size. My other concern would be; is it wise to have so many bottom feeders/dwellers?

My red tailed shark is going into her own tank, and also I am taking out the molly and platys so I can breed them too. Also my loaches are always in there hide aways, and when they are out and about they are fine. I think My fish tank is perfectly fine. :D
