Ok i have been trying to figure out what I can stock my 130 gal tank with. Currently have 5 smaller clown loaches, 1 clown pleco and 6 skirted tetra. I'm thinking about rehoming the tetra and getting 10 silver dollars, and 15 tiger barbs. My thinking is that in the life span of the tiger barbs they will be gone by the time the silver dollars get to their full grown lengh and by the time the clowns get bigger the silver dollars will be dying off. Any opinions?? Thanks in advance!

I kind of get what your saying but not the best way to work out a stocking.... And not an exact science - the inch per gallon rule is not a great thing to stick to but is a good guide.

As for the dieing off rates again not predictable as fish can live ages - much longer than you would think. Im pretty sure tiger barbs can live to like 7 or 8, silver dollars should make 10-15 and clown loaches well... some people have them that are like 20-25....

However I dont think your stocking is that far off being acceptible as it is so I wouldnt over complicate things thinking on ages that die off.

Its just a little heavy if you get tempted to add in some feature fish. Just feed them well and lots of water changes and they will soon pack on the size. I would also look at some of the smaller Silver Dollars like the spotted ones.

The ones i was looking at im pretty sure the spotted ones. Says max size 6" so i think im ok there. The clownsvare really my feature fish tbh just wanted a couple shoals of schooling fish and i know the clowns and barbs are similar to eachother and could shoal togetheris kinda what im thinking. So with the smaller ones i should be good then right?

Yeah sounds like a nice tank :)

Thanks Wills! Going to pick up 10 small silver dollars today. A buck a piece!! usually 5.69 so thats a good deal I presume!

Ok they were out of the silver dollars so i picked up 15 tiger barbs instead. not as big of a savings but they were a dollar each at under an inch long. just let them in the tank and they look good :)
