Hi everyone,

While sorting through junk the other day, I came across my old 10 and 20 gallon tanks. I was set on getting rid of them but then thought...why not keep a few tanks of tiny fish? :D It's been a very long time since I've kept any small, schooling fish (my tinfoils have long since stopped being 'small' LOL) and so would like any tidbits of advice you may have. I'd like fish that school very tightly as I thoroughly enjoy watching schooling behavior...and my tinfoils like to act macho more than anything. :p Thus far, I've come up with the following list:

Rummynose Tetra
Lemon Tetra
Ember Tetra
Pygmy Cory

If you have any more suggestions, feel free to tell me! ^_^ If someone could suggest comfortable numbers for whichever tank, that'd be appreciated. Oh, and I've always wanted to keep a dwarf gourami, would that be possible? :) I've heard that it's better to keep them singly- is this true?

What about phantom tetra?
I have a shoal of 13 mixed phantom tetra (some black, some red and some yellow) for sale at the moment. I think a 20gal could comfortably fit 20 or more as their adult size is max of 1.25in!

Also, what about danios? I think they shoal quite tightly too - I think. Have never owned them though :)

It's finally come to:

10 Gallon:
8 x Ember Tetra
10 x Dwarf cories

20 Gallon (long)
6 x lemon tetra
6 x rummynose tetra
6 x panda cories

How does that look? Any other suggestions? :)

In the 20, maybe some Serpaes? What about Glowlights too?

i would recommend having "large" numbers in each school, because ive read up on tetras and rasboras and some people say that when they had 6 they were a loose school, but then they got 10 more (total 16) and they were virtually glued to each others sides lol  thats just what i read on the web tho, so dont ake it from me

I think you're right, iffles. It's probably preferable to add larger numbers if I want to see schooling behavior. I'm just paranoid about overcrowding the tank :p. What numbers do you think would be okay?

celestial pearl danio species tank for the 10gallon, and blackline rasbora and cherry spot rasbora in the 20gallon? 2 biotopes right there, and they'd both look a treat!
