Ok, i need some suggestions. I am giving my dad one of my 10 gal tanks that has up until now just holding a betta, but I need some stocking suggestions. Here is what I have thought of so far:

one dwarf puffer
---------------------------------------------
8 male guppies (lots of hiding places)
---------------------------------------------
4 female bettas
---------------------------------------------
3 small cories, 6 white cloud minnows

Ok any other suggested stockings? Knowing my dad, having more small fish is more desireable than having a few larger fish. I'm working on the concept of stocking limits with him. ;)

5 female bettas with lots of plants and hiding spots like caves and 3 julii corys.

Why only male guppies? If you are willing or can raise the fry in your tank(s), would your dad not enjoy rearing or witnessing fry birth?

Corydoras would be a nice touch (not sure about your idea, though :dunno:), provided your dad's willing to clean up uneaten food more often.

If I had 20 tanks, they all would have cories in them. So I'd get corries, and some type of shoaling fish, or maybe a small barb or somethin.

I love stocking 10g tanks! My 10's are stocked as follows:
5 male guppies, 3 male endlers, 1 oto, 1 ghost shrimp
6 male endlers, 2 african dwarf frogs, 1 oto
3 apple snails (and babies!)
6 harlequin rasboras, 6 cherry shrimp - This is my current QT tank, but I may just leave it as is or add a single betta.
next in line is a shell-dweller tank (multies).

Pygmy cories would be good in a tank this size as well - maybe 5 of them with 3-4 male guppies or 5-6 male endlers or 5 dwarf rasboras or 3 threadfin rainbows....
