We all have our own tastes. I am not fond of livebearers myself. But if I had to choose between platties and neons, I would go with platys.

But if I were not forced to choose either then I would not.

I would personally go with dwarf puffers or something a little more interesting.

But like I suggested. Take your time. Go to your LFS and see what they have. See what look snice and go home and research, see if they would work.

I can't confirm that as I have never kept any. But wouldn't that just be too cute if they did?

Hey, All those pretty fish are so hard to choose from, but im set for guppys. Good luck with your tank

My first little tank (5 gallon) i put in guppys they are easy to look after and are very hardy.
If your getting a 8 gal, 5 guppies would be very happy in there, they are very active fish and come in so many beutifull colour
I suggest keeping just 1 kind fish in such a tank as many fish like being in groups

That sounds great for a 8G.

the ottos are sensitive, but if you took really good care of the tank, it will be fine.

You could get 2 dwarf puffers (just MAYBE 3, but wouldnt recommend it) but I have heard they are slightly sensitive, but again, if you take care of the water really good...
