Hi all

This is my tank http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=71521

and i need help in stocking it :) (current fish will be removied soon)

i was thinking of having:

2 German Rams
2 Appistos or Cukatoo chiclids
4 Cories (cant decide what ones :p)
3 ottos
and possibly some small schooling fish like tetras

But im not sure if this is overstocked, also ive read somewhere that i cant have more than 2 chiclids in this size tank (30 gallons)

any ideas what i can stock?! :/
Atm i have 2 clowns which r awsome and im thiking of keeping for a little while longer, but they are already 4 inches!!! (i do know they grow big :p)

and if anyone is wondering the tank is cycled B)

(and i want a real tropical colourful tank :) i dont want livebearers!!!!!)

:flex: I would not get any cories with your sand as that is not a good surface for them to root around in. Sand is also hard to vacuum and keep clean. I'm not a fan of it.
I think tetras are a must-have in a community tank, so definitely get some of those. Maybe one slim bodied type like neon, then also a taller bodied type like redeye. bleeding heart, etc.
Don't blame you for not wanting livebearers.
I wouldn't have cichlids in a tank that size, and you certainly don't want to combine cichlids with tetras.
Saw the pic, and I like your tank aquascaping. Have fun.

I won't debate the sand/gravel thing here, but sand is the preferred substrate for corys, so you're fine there. Not sure where BigSteve got his info about corys and sand.

Anyway...

Regarding stocking, I would urge you to select either the rams or the apistos. They might work out together, but they might not. I don't think it's worth the risk if you're looking for a happy, peaceful tank. Otherwise, I think you've got a pretty good plan.

Here's what I'd suggest:
2 rams or apistos
6 corys
4 ottos
6-8 small/medium tetras/rasboras

HTH!

yep tha\t sounds kewl

(or do you know any bright colcoured fish?)

Also does anyoner know about rainbow fish? is their a smaller or bigger breed and are they peacful?
