I have a rekord 60, went to my local fish shop today, 5 weeks after my tank had been set up and brought:

2 oapline gouramis
2 bosemani rainbow
5 suset plays
2 small clown loaches

i previously has in my tank:

6 herlequin rasboras
4 white cloud mountain minnows

my tank looks ace, just hope the fish dont die- stupid gouramis are eating my plants!

Hello,

Did you add all of the fish at once? Also I hate to say this but the Clown loaches can grow to 30cm/12" and the Gouramis and Boesmani rainbowfish will need a bigger tank as they can both grow to at least 10-13cm/4-5".

the ones in the first part of my topic yes, the clown loaches wont get that big, my tank is only small, all fish grow to the size of the tank, how can the loaches grow that bug when the interior walls of the tank are like 29cm- silly

thanks 4 the advice tho

Stunting the growth of your fish is not something you want to do AdAndrews

Do more research

yes i have, this is why i know that i can keep clown loaches, have u got clown loaches that are 30cm long?- didnt think so

Yeah, one thing i hate is when people come on thinking they know everything and mark people who are trying to tell you truth as unknoledgeable liars. Yes, the loach WOULD grow to that size if you didnt keep it in a tiny tank and stunt the poor thing. Its basically like locking a child in a cupboard and leaving him there for a couple of years.

Ever seen what happens to a dog that's been restrained throughout it's life? It doesn't stop growing, it develops leg and spinal deformities and eventually dies far short of it's lifespan.

Also, for a more gruesome example, look up a practice called footbinding. It works on the same principle as fish "fitting" their tanks - it's an ancient practice in some societies in which a person's foot grows to fit the shoe it's kept in.

At any rate, even if fish did stop growing without suffering permanent and eventually lethal damage from it, they wouldn't do so until after they grow too large for the tank - goldfish kept in very small tanks usually don't get stunted, declining water quality gets them first when the filter can no longer keep up.

this would be a good thread to showcase in the what frustrates you the most in this hobby posts.

its teenagers like this that give us all a bad name, alas impresionable minds usually believe the things they want to hear not what others have to say.

Maybe the gouramis are eating the plants to make some more room for the loaches!!!! :shout:

or maybe to stop them growing the fish arent being fed at all ... so therefore plants will become a nice option !

Mind you , he.she aint alone about having clown loaches when young. Lots of people just dont realise how big they will grow. In proportion to its size when young its a lot compared to say a barb or tetra.
