Hi

We have a Juwel Rio 125 ( 120 litres ) which currently has:

2 x Female Opal Gourami
2 x Zebra Loach
3 x Otocinclus catfish
6 x Penguin Tetra

These were transfered from a previous smaller tank.

We are looking at getting a few more fish as the tank is looking a little barren

The tank is fully cycled with a sand substrate.

Any suggestions for good tanks mates for the above?

Maybe add another small school of Tetras, maybe 4 or 5 Black Skirt tetras. Just keep in mind the gouramis can get a good size, around 5-6" so it may limit the stock of your tank due to size restrictions. Also as mentioned before, adding a few more Otto's would be fine too.

More Otto's will be coming,

The Gourami's are fairly old and I don't think they will get much bigger!

My partner has taken a liking to some Zebra Barbs, how would these get on?

Thanks for the replies so far :good:

Completely agree about more otos (grow algae on pebbles underwater in the backyard sun for them and rotate the pebbles in and out of the tank.)

When people say "zebra barb" they usually mean Tiger Barbs and these can be among the meanest fish you'll ever meet (of course Opalines can be mean too, but I'd still be wary of the barbs.) A roving band of tigers just does better in a tank about double or triple your size that has a lot of even bigger, meaner fish in it.

Now it's possible my thoughts are not quite right for your tank. A band of 6 tigers might just ignore the penguins and the Opals both and of course nobody (among the fish) will notice the otos, so I don't know, maybe some of the members might think you could get away with it ok!
