Hello, I'm a bit new to fish, But have been keeping them alongside others for years. I finally got a decent sized aquarium to fill up as I please and figured I'd ask for some advice/suggestions from the pros. Its a 29 gal 30x12x18.

I was thinking about a spiny eel, or a ropefish. Although I am leaning more towards spiny eel and it would probably be easier as well. Other than that I was thinking some Honey Sunset Gouramis, some kind of smallish catfish possibly hoplo or porthole, or some loaches. I might get a small pleco and was trying to think of some other kind of cool oddball that would mix well. Any suggestions for other kinds of fish that would get along well with these would be great.

Thanks!

As far as the pleco goes, i'd try something like a bristlenose in that sized tank or a peckolita species. i'm trying to think of a good sized oddball. I'll write back if I can think of one.

You could go with dwarf goruamies, cherry barbs, tetras, danios, platys. I would pass on the regular plecos as they get to big. Loaches get too big.

I was thinking some honey sunset gouramis, a clown pleco?, a spiny eel, possibly some golden killies(sp?).

Also out of curiosity would shrimp of any kind be ok in this kind of set up with the fish I have listed above. I know they are sensitive to many medications and treatments, can anyone fill me in on to what extent their sensitivity is? I am going to use aquari-sol for water treatment and read on the back its not a good idea for shrimp so should I just toss this idea out now?

Also thanks for all the help and replies!
