Starting again
Now I should mention I am currently only allowed a 5gallon small presentation tank but I have been promised years down the line when we have a sturdy house and other elements etc I would be allowed my dream fish - stingrays. I absolutely adore these guys but wouldnt mind learning more about them and their needs, I have read the stickies and online but a little more direction would be great as I keep getting thoroughly confused with the names.
I know there are 3 smaller species of rays, which ones are these and what is the minimum tank for life for one?
I have seen leopoldis (forgive spelling) and ADORE their markings, also seen smaller species of similar markings? What is there name and also tank size requirements.
If we ever get to this point in our lives (which hopefully we will as animals fill our void not children) I would ensure a species only tank for them as only real compatible tank mates seen are arowanas. If species only tank is there a way to get specialised tank sizes? Having the correct length and width but shortened height or is all required for swimming needs? Forgive this naive question as very much in the learning end of this species.
I have heard about feeding difficulties and been following Mattlee's journal on here, having had to wean difficult puffers in my time hopefully I have a beginner experience to deal with this when the time comes.
Sex wise, I know they can be easily told apart but if looking for pairs etc what is the best ratio??? Pairs one of each seem good and I am guessing getting a tank space for one does not make much difference by getting two? Does the tank size change that much the more you add? Of course the filtration needs to and interms of filtration is it similar to other carnivores like the puffer? Over filtration recommended?
Any real special water requirements such as RO?
Anything else need to know? Any pics you would love to show me A long way off if we ever get to get this type of dream tank but I can research in advance of course to argue my case
