ok not sure if any of u have seen the pics in the pix section but i got 2 hystrix rays last week and they have settled in just great, only over the last 24hrs the female keeps coming up to the surface and flapping the water around then going back to the bottom then about 15 mins later do it again, she is actually sticking her mouth out of the water, is she ill or need air any ideas lost a motoro last week as well dont want to lose another ray.

Have you checked the water parameters? Fish surfacing and gasping out of the water for air is usually a sure sign of nitrogen pollution, usually in the form of nitrites or high nitrates. If the nitrites even show on the test or if the nitrates are above 40ppm then i recomend a immiediet 50% water change.

nt to do with the topic but youre hundred gallon is rather over stocked isnt it pacu and tsn in a 100 galon tank it is pushing it isnt it and what size tank was the motoro in as they can grow over 60cm in diameter
