Ok going to throw my tank outta the window very soon, been fishless cycling my 30 gal tank now for almost 2 weeks, into it went seeded media and some ornaments.

Ammonia levels have been 0 after the first couple of days but I just can't get the nitrites down. I'm using and Interpet liquid test kit and it goes bright purple straight away. I've even stopped putting ammonia in for a couple of days to see if that helps but its not dropping at all. There are Nitrates though.

Any ideas???

If there is no ammonia and the nitrites are still up, then it is just on the trail of finishing. Just be patient, the time will come. :)

Patience has never been one of my virtues, thats why the credit card companies like me so much :p

I'll wait for it to drop just wanted to make sure it wasn't taking an abnormally long time.

Ok I'm going to sit in the corner and be quiet, think I've found the problem, just read the article by Chris Cow on fishless cycling and he wrote it using similar strength ammonia to the stuff I've got and he was adding 2-3 drops per 10 gal. I've got a 30 gal tank and have been adding 1.5-2ml... :look:

I did that the first time I did fishless cycling. Do a large water change (50-75%) to get the nitrite level down to sensible proportions and then don't do any water changes for a couple of days and see how that works.

You could try adding live plants.....

I've got quite a few live plants in there trouble is the algae is taking over so the plants are struggling, need some algae eaters in there but the nitrites are too high...vicious circle comes to mind
