Steves Jewul Re-Vamp

I can recommend bolivians, even with Tigers they seem to do ok, but that might be due to the size of my tank, plenty of space to leggit.

Pondering the idea of building some shelving in my office this weekend, get the tigers back into their own tank and have some shelves for fry tanks

Sounds excellent Tizer.

Steve, just bare in mind that Tigers are quite capable of reaching a very chunky, deep bodied 3", so having a sizeable group of around 10 would be extremely active and soon fill up a 125 litre tank.

Take a look at SchottayB's Trigon thread, he has Bolivians and Rummynoses as his shoalers, works quite well with a planted tank. :)

rummynose are ace, i have 15 and they are stunning little fish, tight formation all over the tank with little fear of my tigers thank god :D

Also redo your maths on the 10ml a week, im dosing 1.75mls A DAY of TPN+ on a 35 litre tank.

Ok thanks. Ye i like the rams but heard they are quite hard for beginners.

Thanks anyway minnt i love an excuse to go down the lfs  :good:

Bolivian Rams are alot more forgiving of water stats than GBR's are, so should make for a good choice.

Another thing, bit of a ball ache, but try a plain black back ground to see if you like it better than the current one.

Funny enough ive been looking at the tropical to marine setup by dannywrc and it does look good with a black background, may have to copy it

Tank is now looking very healthy plant wise, the lights need to be updated as they dont kick out that much so the uva bulb is getting replaced also with the other light so that they are both the same. Probably one marine white and marine actnic blue. love the blue ripple effect.

getting a cheap moonlight affect led strip also for the night time :good:

I am going to get a blue bulb for mine too. Don't get blue leds, get white. Check out my 4ft tank thread for pictures. Blue leds are not natural at all imo.

Here you go :)

It is completely up to you matey, but the blue leds are very blue and to me at least are not natural and are nothing like moonlight. But thats just me

The ones i have were a tenner from ebay... Worth every penny imo. I use them as sun up and sun down lights for an hour before and after the main lights are on if thats makes sense.

Yeah thats what i was planning just half hour before sun down, then all night until half hour before the main come on. :good:

The ones i looked at were 92 for £15 and dimmable (blue)

White LEDs are available in two main types. Cool white and Warm white.

Warm white is similar to looking at a filament bulb

Cool white has the hint of blue and will give you the better moonlight effect.

Ok had a good look around at various ferts and think i found a winner. So because at the moment i have a little amount of plants at the moment i have decided to get the EasyCarbo 250ml bottle for now. going to be approx 1.25 ml dosing and should see some healthy growth after 2 weeks with no changes to the tank equipment.

Happy days

Pic will be uploaded later today of day 11 of the tank :good:

Ok so a big update today,

First i had a bit of a disaster with the play sand. I nearly broke a new filter and my fish loved moving it all over the place. So i decided to move back to stones, well pea shingle to be exact

I have recently decided that i will be going fully planted and the tank also doubles as a nursery tank also. I am getting into growing plants for other people so my anubis nana has been split into three seperate plants, looking really healthy. :good:

The java fern has grown a few new leaves since placing it in the tank so thats a bonus.

My java moss has been split into a smaller patch due to re-homing in a new tank so im building that back up.

So far the main changes are the stones and changing the tubes to energy efficient A bulbs (warm daylight) so now the output is into the 1.31W per gallon :good:

Still no co2 or fertaliser at this moment in time but going down the easycarbo route with easylife profito from the green machine which happens to be on my doorstep.

Hope you like the pics, sorry for the 13 day wait for the new pics

Just a quick update purchased salt and pepper corys yesterday along with 3 serpea tetras from the LFS. The corys are tiny probably around 1 inch maximum :/

Also had a switch around in an attempt to balance the tank a little. Any comments welcome :good:

Really thinking on getting a 10gallon ish tank specific for the corys and java fern soon. Just got to 'bribe' the missus
Maybe let her have the rabbit she wants in "exchange" for the tank

On a further note i have spotted yellow spots on my amazon sword, classic iron deficiency so that will be getting dealt with as soon as the case flow is better. Also getting a bit of brown furry algae possibly brown bush algae? Sort of not worried at the moment due to it being the tanks first week with the new substrate. Roll on when the filter media matures

You will need to dose a fertiliser aswell as the liquid carbon mate. Something like TPN+ or profito i believe.

Also pea shingle isn't an ideal substrate for the Cory's, so if you do decide to move them then ensure they have a sand or fine smooth gravel to graze on. :)

Other than that, looking good bud. :)
