Cold cathode tubes added to the back, for night time light. Run these at 8volts, found 12volts too bright. 9.99 from Maplin.

All going well so far, maybe change the plant layout about a bit, still learning :p

Thanks for the comments, the plants are starting to grow well now - lots of new roots. Will be adding some more fish at the end of the month, taking it slowly.

Here are some more pictures. Today i added my last extra light (until i make a custom hood), its a T5 compact Triplus 24w from Interpet. Adds lots of light, now i have 2 x 18w T8 (replaced the Juwel original tubes for Arcadia), 1 x 25w Arcadia Tropical Original, 1 x 24w T5 compact a total of 85w. Think that equals 2.1 WPG (40 gallons), is that right?? A definate impovement on the original lights :good:

Before the new light:

After the new light, camara makes the shadows at the front a lot more pronouced.

Simple but effective upgrade! Are you planning on using CO2? It is a deep tank but 2wpg is a level which could make algae happy if plant levels/growth, fertiliser and CO2 are not sufficient.

Yes eventually, i'm going to see how it goes for now. Used to run a couple home made coke bottles in an old fish tank, may try that before adding bottled co2.

I`ll have a tenner on algae.

Without CO2, your best bet would be to not use the full 2WPG for the full photoperiod.

Nevertheless, you did a good job getting 2WPG under the lid. It can be a bit tricky with a corner tank.

The Oto picture is pretty good, too.

Dave.

Yes i was thinking of running 5 on 2 off 5 on with all the lights on in the last photoperiod only. Will see who it goes.:)

Hi Steve,
Tank looking good :good: . I started my first planted tank 6 weeks ago with co2 (yeast). You would see a big difference if you add some. Looking good all the same. Maplin for the night lights you say? Are they easy to fit. If they are stick on with the heat of the lights will they not come off eventually.
Regards Darren

Yes the lights are from maplin, stuck them on with some spare light tube clips, just pushed these into the background. Not fallen off yet!

Got some co2, optimat made by tetra, will have to see if it does anything.
