Hi everyone,

I have bought a pair of sterbai cories. One of them died about a month ago and the remaining one has started to act weirdly. He's been swimming up to the surface and breathed quite hard. I was wondering if that is a normal behaviour of cories.

Thx heaps,
Hun.

Hey there,

There's a good post here about corys breathing air. It's something that they do naturally but if they're doing it continuously then something is probably wrong.

Cheers.

Hi feedmyfish :)

It's perfectly normal for corys to dart up to the surface and grab a gulp of air, but if he is spending a lot of time up there, it's a sign he is in distress. Breathing hard is not a good thing either.

Without knowing more about your tank and it's conditions, I really can't advise you what to do, but whenever a cory (or other fish for that matter) has a problem, a big water change is always the first thing to do. It will never hurt, and will sometimes solve the problem.

How are your other fish doing?
